Crystal Palace Picton Ontario
1904
40x30

The Crystal Palace Exhibition Hall in Picton is modeled after the original Crystal Palace in London, England, which had been built for the Worlds Exposition of 1851.
A popular design, Crystal Palace reproductions appeared throughout North America in the latter part of the 19th century.
Picton's Palace was constructed in 1877. The building is composed primarliy of glass and wood. By 1990, the building was at the end of its useful life. Local groups combined to carry out a 6 year restoration project, culminating in the building's rededication in 1997.
The Picton example is quite possibly the last of its kind in North America.
